We are a state co-ed primary school nestled beside the beautiful hills of Wainuiomata. Ara means path and kura means learning - pathway to learning. Arakura was the name gifted in 1965 by Īhāia Pōrutu Puketapu (1887-1971). Īhāia Pōrutu Puketapu was a chief and leader of Te Ati-Awa-No-Runga-I-Te-Rangi tribe of Waiwhetu whose vision lead to the building of the wharenui, 'Arohanui ki te Tangata' (Goodwill to All Men), in Waiwhetu.
At Arakura, we take pride in our relationship and connection with our whānau and community, and our tamariki are at the heart of everything we do.
Our vision:
E tū mana ana mō te ao pai ake nā roto te atawhai, te māia, me te whakaute
Standing with mana for a better world through kindness, courage and respect
