Our People
What makes us tick?
We are committed to our students, our community and each other
All staff are involved in Professional Growth Cycle to improve our capability and practice
We strive for a learning-focused culture in which we learn, collaborate, and problem-solve together
All teachers and several of our support staff are doing the Te Ahu o Te Reo Māori course with Takatū this year. Our aim is to normalise te reo across the school, aiming for immersion 'Level 3 Emerging Programmes' (31% to 50% immersion) which means:
English is the main language of communication and instruction
The teacher can communicate at a basic level of Māori, but has difficulty instructing in Māori
Māori is used as the classroom management language
An increase in the level of immersion is restricted by the level of fluency of the teacher
We are committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (protection, partnership, and participation), particularly with regards to equitable outcomes for Māori and Pasifika - which at Arakura School, make up 65% of our role
We provide an Induction & Mentoring programme for provisionally certificated teachers
As part of our Pathway to Learning (Annual Plan) 2023 this year, we are teaching and leading with courage to grow our skills and capability
