Enrolment Information For Arakura School
Arakura School has an Enrolment Scheme in place. You can check whether your address is in zone by going to this website https://www.educationcounts.govt.nz/find-school and entering your address.
In New Zealand, children can start primary school once they reach 5 years of age, and must be attending formal schooling by the time they reach 6 years of age.
In-Zone Enrolments
At the time of application for enrolment, the address provided must be the student’s usual place of residence when the school is open for instruction. This means that if you currently live at an in-zone address but move to an out-of-zone address before your child’s first day of attendance at the school, your child will not be entitled to enrol at the school. If you are in the process of building at an in-zone address, your ‘usual’ residence, i.e. the house you are living in on a day to day basis whilst building, is the address counted for enrolment purposes.
On enrolment parents are asked to give proof of residence (proof of residence such as a utility bill, a lodged tenancy agreement or a completed sale and purchase agreement). A copy will be kept on the student’s file.
Out of Zone Enrolments
Each year the Board will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. The board will publish this information on the school website. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and specify a date by which all applications must be received. The notice may indicate how many places are available.
Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:
If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989.
Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.
Applicants seeking second or third priority status may be required to give proof of a sibling relationship.
First Priority This priority is not applicable at this school because the school does not run a special
programme approved by the Secretary for Education.
Second Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.
Third Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.
Fourth Priority will be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.
Fifth Priority will be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the
school or a child of a member of the board of the school.
Sixth Priority will be given to all other applicants.
